The garage underwent minor changes throughout it's lifetime. In 1950 it officially became a junkyard when an overgrown lot surrounding the back area was auctioned off, it was turned into extra space for cars and scrap parts. In the 50s it's neighbouring plot to the right which had some old bungalows and shacks on it were razed in order for two commercial plots to be built. Later this was the same case for the the store to it's right to be demolished for an affluent condo lot.

Westwood is a designated community area on the west side of Greenfield, California. It is located west of Downtown Greenfield.

History
Back in the late 19th century Greenfield saw a massive boom in industrial expansion and therefore needed to expand further west of the city. This was urgent because a ton of residents were displaced in order to build a port right next to Barons Bar.

At the turn of the century Barons Bar grew to a decent size, while the land right next to it was home to a few dilapidated houses and a lot of shanties because of the port expansion. But it was from 1900 that new area would be slowly built up. The neighbourhood was mostly made up of regular single-family homes or duplexes and other things alike, with wall-to-wall commercial buildings along the grand avenue's.

Multiple factory buildings were placed along the canal and towards the port which made a direct access to the railroads leading in and out of Greenfield. The current passenger railroad was relaid onto a small elevation held up by concrete walls which goes right through the neighbourhood with a train station being built on one of the main avenue's. And multiple bridges were constructed that connected Westwood and Ashfield west which made transporting goods easier with cargo-vehicles. Westwood and it's neighbouring districts generated alot of income for the city.

Rolling into the 1930s and 1940s, many factories were constructed and or updated for more for more workers and better production rates. On the very outskirts of town a few houses were built making Westwood a fairly large neighbourhood.

Westwood's most booming decade was the 1950s. During this period a ton of industries would settle inbetween Westwood and Barons Bar. Along with a massive expansion to the Greenfield Port. This caused for a major population boom and a big expansion for Westwood. As it became a hotspot for a cheap, easy living, close to the city center and to tons of jobs available. Many cheap, brand new houses were built in order to house the incoming residents moving in.

But as car-depency became a trend, the new Interstate-5 would cut right through Westwood, Barons Bar and other poor neighbourhoods. This caused many long-time residents to be displaced and the neighbourhood to change drastically. Leaving behind a path of destruction that is still seen to this day.

Westwood did not suffer too much from the car-dependent expansions. But would slowly start to fall off from it's glory days. Land value starting to decrease along with a creeping abandonment issue forming in the neighbourhood. And citizens wanted to be paid fairly, as some companies simple gave very low loans, which led up to a huge garbage strike that started from 1968 and lasting till early 1973. Devolving into a dirty, smog-filled poor ghetto. And the usual petty crimes are now starting to become more frequent.

One by one businesses and companies left the place in search to settle in well-off areas. The once grand avenues slowly being overtaking by empty lots, filth and shady stripmalls that have fallen into disrepair. Not much was left of the original Westwood apart from the decrepit, old houses and boarded up stores or factories that were literally falling apart.

With the formation of gangs, many people nicknamed it 'The Murder Grove' because of arson and rivalling gangs fighting for territory, drugs and guns, along with the pressure of major riots due to police-brutality and the government corrupt to the core. The streets once peaceful are now being fought over with rising gun violence, and the police non-stop busting traphouses and drug-trafficking operations due to the ongoing Crack Epidemic that greatly impacted the city of Greenfield.

The 1994 Earthquake left Westwood in dazzling conditions. Collapsed buildings, ruined roads and an increased level of poverty and homelessness. Which resulted in several construction companies re-doing the roads along with demolishing and cleaning up only a few of the ruins left by the disaster. But despite it's infrastructure redone, that was only a one-time fix. And to this day many poor residents have to live in decrepit, run down houses that still look battle-torn ever since. With many abandoned and burnt-down houses and stores still left gutted and torn apart, and the roads being full of garbage and looking just as awful and beat-up before the earthquake hit. And crime decreased since the 1990s but still not enough for it to be safe to walk outside. Little has been done and it's basically left as a decaying slum as of 2023.

History
In 1909, settlers instituted the City of Palma after neighboring Rockwell settlers built a giant oil refinery. Becoming a decently sized oil town. Years later, Palma would undergo a major makeover. Big sections of Palma and one of the major avenues separating Rockwell and Palma were demolished, making way for the new i5 interchange. This new exit allowed interstate travelers to stop in Palma for refreshments. As a result of recent expansion, a new development was built on the eastern side of Palma with a middle school, multiple strip malls, and several duplexes and apartments. Palma was one of the most affordable places to live at the time since an oil refinery occupied much of the city. The city's west side would also be redeveloped in 1958 with more duplexes, a motel, and many single-family homes, along with an entirely new circled section later constructed in 1986, replacing more old houses. In 1965, the oil refinery was abandoned after the owners failed to follow safety regulations. The abandoned refinery attracted a lot of criminals, so the City of Greenfield planned a new police and fire station for Palma. In 2016, the city dismantled the oil refinery and recent development, including Palma Altos Retirement Communities. Palma continues to be a thriving suburb as of today, but has little left of it's former buildings from the past. Only just a few elderly houses scattered around Palma.

Ramona is a designated community area in the southeast area of Greenfield, California. It is located southeast of Downtown Greenfield.

History
Ramona used to be an old farming area when it was first settled, with a few small farms and houses here and there. That was until 1901 when the nearby city of Greenfield rapidly expanded into the area. The first fancy new roads were layed out in 1904 and the streetcar line was expanded into ramona. The area rapidly expanded throughout the 1900s and 10s.

Ramona had a large mexican culture, just like many other cities in California, and many mexican restaurants filled out the area. the area housed many middle class households who worked at the factories and businesses in downtown. This stayed that way untill the 1950s when the highway act of 1956 was instituted. Many middle-upper class families moved out to the brand new suburbs like Los Llanos and Palma. Ramona turned into a working class neighbourhood with one of the highest crime rates behind Westwood. Then in the 1960s the new I-5 interstate cut the neighbourhoods of Ramona and Dawson in two. The area didnt have any new development and many stores went out of business.

Then in 1965 disaster struck. A gas leak had formed at a demolition site in western Ramona, the construction company ignored safety concern and this leak was overlooked. The house blew up and sent burning debris into neighbouring houses. Most of these houses were very old and not up to standard so in not even an hour after the blaze almost the entire eastern section of ramona burned down. Firefighters only arrived 2 hours after the initial blaze. Ramona was in ruin. Many houses and businesses were destroyed and or burned down the blaze also caused damage to the new I-5. The interstate was closed down and all the interstate traffic caused gridlock in Ramona during rush hours. Unfortunately 21 people died during the blaze and 4 died after. Around 152 Ramona citizens were homeless and had to take shelter in parking garages near the town. The city and the construction company were sued to the ground by the citizens who lost a family member or house. The construction company went into chapter 11 bankrupcty soon after.

Unfortunately the neighbourhood wasnt built in until 1972 when ground was broken for a new development on the eastern side of Ramona. Many new large single family homes, big apartment buildings, a large stripmall, a doctors office and a christian elementary school were built. this new suburban development attracted many white suburbanites into the neighbourhood. This was a turn around for Ramona and since then many new buildings were built in Ramona.

Ramona is one of many older suburbs in Greenfield, therefore it's a historic neighborhood. Most of Ramona's residents are from Spanish and or Mexican decent.

Most of the original houses are former workers houses so there are many foursquare-based and craftsman inspired homes. With it being from the early 1900s, there are also several victorian-styled houses with the most notable being the Sean Jeremiah Khrysler house. Due to it's Mexican background it makes Ramona very diverse district because there are a few Revival/Spanish styled houses in the area, though a lot of development and the neighbourhood has only half of it's former homes. And the original stores that once filled the avenue's are basically all gone.

Cultural protests
Due to the recent population boom in Greenfield, Ramona has been going through many economical changes, even after the 1970s when the eastern portion was entirely rebuild. The changes starting as early as the 1980s when they redeveloped the riverfront into new high end apartments. during the 1980s till the early 2000s many homes and businesses were taken down to be replaced with larger and fancier homes, apartments and businesses. In the late 2010s a new 5 storey apartment complex was built on the western edge of the district. Causing public outrage and protests, these protests are still going on to this day since the gentrification of surrounding neighbourhoods of downtown greenfield has not stopped since. The economical side also changed, from a lower class neighbourhood in the 1980s to a high end upper class neighbourhood now. Businesses were replaced with fancier chain stores, such as the new high end Golden Groceries store replacing an old family owned supermarket, a new Nacho Shack replacing an old repair store and other chains such as Burgershot, Sucre Cafe and WaySub.

Due to all this homes have reached an all time high of generally being 1 million+ dollar homes.

These changes have pushed cultural heritage and families out of the formerly mexican neighbourhood of Ramona into poorer suburbs like Westwood.

Protests are trying to stop the gentrification of older neighbourhoods and want the city council to do something about the rapidly raising property prices.

The Glenview Galleria is a declining mall in the north of Glenview.

History
The Glenview Galleria was proposed by the Rottweil Brothers, in 1969 and approved in 1971, The mall would replace an empty peice of land in north Glenview on the famous East Oakland Boulevard. Ground was broken for the mall in February 1978 and most of the mall's stores opened in July 1979. The mall had a foodcourt, a large parking garage and 2 department stores, CJNickels and Shears. The only competitor nearby was the Western Winds Mall in Ashfield, which was hard to reach by car, so shoppers preffered the Glenview Galleria.

in the 1990s a subway entrance was built on the mall property, attracting many new customers from other areas in Greenfield.

Decline
The mall started its decline in 1999, when the Shears Department store closed down. With only one anchor, the mall was desperate for a new one, before other stores started closing down. Fortunately the mall struck a deal with the 16Theatre group and the former Shears Department store was partly rebuilt into the Glenview 16 Theatre in 2003. However 4 months after the theatre opened, a fire started in the foodcourt, burning down 3 restaurants before the fire was put out by the Glenview fire department.

In 2006 The nearby Downtown Greenfield mall had a huge expansion, with a brand new Jaycee's Department store and an expanded food court. Customers chose to go to the Downtown mall, instead of the Galleria.

In 2014 after loss of revenue, the remaining department store CJnickels closed down permanently, and moved to the Downtown Greenfield Mall after the huge boom of popularity of Downtown. With only one anchor left, the mall now started losing customers rapidly, other stores in the mall started closing down permanently or moving to other shopping centers in the area.

Even with the recent population boom of Glenview, The galleria is still in huge decline and many stores have closed down since 2014.

Future
The plan
The mall owners, Glenview Galleria Holding Coorporation have come together with the Salvatore Realty Group to make a plan for the galleria to be rebuilt into a 6 story luxury apartment building with 50+ Luxury apartment units, 20 affordable housing units, 10 retail units, a pool, an outdoor garden and a public parking garage on the main mall. The mall itselves will be refit into a large garden, with stores on both the large avenues, The plan is that many of the people who will live within the Galleria will cycle or take the subway to work, instead of using the car. The Former JCpennies department store will be rebuilt into a parking garage.

The Theatre and parking garage will be sold to the 16theatre group and the pedestrian bridges between the mall and the building will be taken down.

Controversy
The plan was released in April, and since then Glenview residents have come together and protested at the Santa Cabeza Library about the brand new apartment complexes, replacing the former culture of Glenview. As 7 large partment buildings, and many smaller ones have already been built the residents of Glenview are protesting against the mall redevelopment plan with the praise: Glenview<3Galleria. To stop new apartments from being built.

In the late 1800s this brand new residential/industrial area was slowly getting built up, experiencing a great expansion in the early 1900s. The neighbourhood was mostly made up of regular single-family homes or duplexes and other things alike, with wall-to-wall commercial buildings along the grand avenue's. Multiple factory buildings were placed along the canal and towards the port which made a direct acces to the railroads leading in and out of Greenfield.

And on the very outskirts of town a few houses were built making Westwood a fairly decently sized neighbourhood.

But as car-depency became a trend, the new Interstate-5 would cut right through Westwood, Barons Bar and other poor or racially diverse neighbourhoods.

Ramona is a designated community area in the southeast area of Greenfield, California. It is located southeast of Downtown Greenfield.

History
Ramona used to be an old farming area when it was first settled, with a few small farms and houses here and there. That was untill 1901 when the nearby city of Greenfield rapidly expanded into the area.

Number of vacancies in Ramona is through the roof!
It has been a few years since the devastating tragedy took place on April 16th, 1965 in the distric of Ramona. When an overlooked safety hazard caused absolute mayhem and nearly burnt the whole place down, people say the situation hasn't bettered, here's what one of Ramona's residents has to say " This is ludicrous! Half of the neighbourhood burnt down and took the lives from many hard working families, and the god damned city still ain't done a thing ever since. They say "It's gonna be okay" but now it's 1971 and the place looks like a warzone. Us are simply forced to camp in parking lots, drum ourselves into motels for those that have the money or some take it to the next level and are literally squatting in the vacant burnt-out shells that shows that we are desperate."

Residents also complain about the number of vacant homes. It's like Detroit is what multiple people are saying, they are struggling to sell them or they just never get noticed. It's been rising since 1965 and the main avenue's are slowly dying. People don't have the money anymore to afford it and they simple walk away once the rot starts showing in their house. " They don't care, they build their highways and luxurious buildings but the rest can rot in hell. As long as everything is in their favor and rounding them up lots of money, then it stays that way. Have some mercy and bring a god damn change to this people!" -Matthew Hemfield

There have been rumors of a revitalisation plan for the destroyed East section, which is making the current residents doubtful of what it will have in store for the future. The so called "plans" have been about completely demolishing the Eastside and placing a new neighbourhood on it. Though due to the current residents being doubtful about it because they fear it might only be for rich whites looking to move in and gentrify and force out the poor folks out of their homes.

Now people that is all we have for today about the growing abandonedment problem eating off Greenfields' reputation. Stay safe and till next time.

So many houses there were back then inspired by various styles such as: Spanish revival, Spanish Colonial revival, Mission revival, Pueblo revival and many more... With also the typical historical Californian styles such as Craftsman and Victorian influence making it a very architecturally diverse neighborhood. Sadly many great homes were lost due to the fire and sometimes demolition through out the years.
Westwood is a designated community area on the west side of Greenfield, California. It is located west of Downtown Greenfield.

History
Back in the early 20th century Greenfield saw a massive boom in industrial expansion and therefore needed to expand further west of the city. This was urgent because a ton of residents were displaced in order to build a port right next to Barons Bar. In the 1900s this brand new residential/industrial area would be Westwood.

And on the very outskirts of town a few houses were built making Westwood a fairly decently sized neighbourhood.

The golden age of the 1950s made Westwood not an expensive, but an affordable, productive and stable neighbourhood. Big companies settled here, people built a few newer houses on elderly houses and the main roads were alive with family-owned businesses', the recent major port expansion and development was the reason for Westwood to become thriving in those days.

But as car-depency became a trend, the new Interstate-5 would cut right through Westwood, Barons Bar and other poor or racially diverse neighbourhoods. This caused many long-time residents to be displaced and a few buildings that were demolished. This increased traffic because the factories had better transport via trucks and stores could have more people passing by with a car. However, this made living conditions and land value to decrease and crime was slowly crawling it's way up once the mid-60s hit. So smaller businesses' closed their doors because sometimes those robberies would cost a lot of money to fix, and Westwood is slowly plummeting into a not so nice neighbourhood.

By the late 1960s and early 1970s, big companies would go bankrupt or move out of Greenfield for a place with a more thriving economy and investments. This caused residents to become unemployed and would financially make it harder to keep up. Which resulted in houses being abandoned and or forclosed, which some of them were targeted by arsonists and vandals. Crime was rampant and lead to the birth of the long-time gangs we know of today, those were the Westside Brothers and the Gunslingers, which were feared by loads of people in the area.

Around this time is when the avenue's were only mere shadows of it's former grand roads lined with stores. Consisting of empty lots strewn with garbage, boarded up wall to wall retail as the only original buildings left standing. And rotting midcentury stripmalls closing one by one slowly. The streets were in terrible condition and the people lived in old, outdated houses that most of the inhabitants living in it had no money to maintain it. Homelesness and garbage was a big problem, some people even left beaten up car wrecks on the side of the roads. And yet the city did nothing about it and Westwood became one big ghetto. Ramona at the time was lucky to be saved by a development company.

Westwood in the 1980s and 1990s is one of the most popular, memorable periods of that area. Through rap-culture people were able to show their dire situation to make the dying neighbourhoods a better place. Gangs took advantage of the growing Crack Epidemic which resulted in gruesome killings throughout the period, with often shootouts forming on the streets every month. Westwood suffered multiple minor protests to fight against racism, which the most chaotic one was fueled by the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles in 1992. It wasn't as bloody and fiery as LA, but several cars, businesses' were torched and or vandalised. People fought with each other which caused the police to form roadblocks in certain parts of the neighbourhood. The riots were quickly apprehended and stopped after two days of unrest.

As the 21st century comes. Westwood recovered slightly from it's former decayed and abandoned place it was in previous times, there are more stores than usual, the streets are a tad bit nicer and crime after the 2000s has decreased to a relatively low level. Though it's still dangerous and remains the most crime-ridden district of Greenfield as of today, it did not fully heal since there are still decaying buildings, gang presence and homelesness, though in comparison that decreased in recent times.

There have been rumors of a revitalisation plan for the destroyed West section, which is making the current residents doubtful of what it will have in store for the future. The so called "plans" have been about completely demolishing the Westside and placing a new neighbourhood on it. Though due to the current residents being doubtful about it because they fear it might only be for rich whites looking to move in and gentrify and force out the poor folks out of their homes.

Now people that is all we have for today about the growing abandonedment problem eating off Greenfields' reputation. Stay safe and till next time.

Ramona used to be an old farming area when it was first settled, with a few small farms and houses here and there.

Unfortunately the neighbourhood wasnt built in until 1969 when ground was broken for a new development on the eastern side of Ramona.

Rolling into the 1930s
Protests are trying to stop the gentrification of older neighbourhoods and want the city council to do something about the rapidly raising property prices.

Ramona is a designated community area in the southeast area of Greenfield, California. It is located southeast of Downtown Greenfield.

History
Ramona used to be an old farming area when it was first settled, with a few small farms and houses here and there. That was untill 1903 when the nearby city of Greenfield rapidly expanded into the area. The first roads were layed out in 1903 and the streetcar line was expanded into ramona. The area rapidly expanded throughout the 1910s and 20s.

Most of these houses were very old and not up to standard so in not even an hour after the blaze almost the entire western section of ramona burned down.

Unfortunately the neighbourhood wasnt build in untill 1969 when ground was broken for a new development on the western side of Ramona.

In the late 2000s a new 5 storey apartment complex was built on the eastern edge of the district.

Westwood is a designated community area on the west side of Greenfield, California. It is located west of Downtown Greenfield.

Westwood is an industrialized residential district, it was a small area until the 1950s when a huge industrial port expansion/development took place. And with this many new stores and factories were built, as new 50s houses filled the remaing lots in between the older homes. Unfortunately Westwood became a victim of neglect and segregation because the majority of the neighbourhood was made up of poor African American and Mexican/Spanish people. With the new interstate 5 being plowed through the neighbourhood, this definitely became a place that the most would not want to move to. Further decreasing the landvalue.

Westwood in general is not a nice place. It's made up of ghetto stores, factories and poor, rundown bungalows, with some being completely vacant or burnt down. Crime is still rampant and Westwood suffered highly during the 80s-90s Crack epidemic. Which is also one of the major pillar reasons why Westwood still is the place it is today. Homicide rates and gun violence is higher than the other districts. Homelessness is common and atleast almost half of the population lives on or below poverty line. And gang activity is high here.

Westwood is a prime example of Greenfield's most neglected districts ever. It had a promising future but has been ever decaying since the 1960s.
