History

In the 1950s, right after the end of World War II, a huge population boom hit the United States, causing many to want to live the American dream: a large single-family house with a garden. Los Llanos was one of these communities. Early settlers built most of the northern neighborhood in 1949-1952 and central areas from 1951-1953. The suburban developments engulfed a small town near the Greenfield city center called Los Llanos. The town wasn’t considerable and was almost demolished to make place for the complexes constructed around the city. Some shops and the iconic church remain from what used to be Los Llanos. The rest was all redeveloped into new strip malls and housing. In 1972, a large industrial plant was taken down at the request of the citizens. The City of Greenfield redeveloped the plant into a small neighborhood with several stores and a bowling alley. In 1979, a warehouse was destroyed and turned into the Los Llanos High School. This plan was a part of the Rio Pueblo redevelopment. In 2015, a new suburban community with a golf course and a YMCA was built on the Sonora River.
