In 2011, Novia Ground Solutions were close to lose its 7-year handling license in John Wayne Airport to Globe Handling. This would have led to the loss of thousands of jobs and as a consequence a major 24-hour strike was carried out in June 2011 that affected many flights and passengers. Novia Ground Solutions went to court as they believed juridical mistakes had been made. The judge ruled that a new investigation was to be conducted and that, in the meantime, Novia could continue operations at the airport. Before a new investigation was concluded, Globe Handling took over Flightcare, the other ground handling company at the airport. Note that only two handling licences are issued at John Wayne Airport. | |||
