Many residents were excited about the prospect of a faster and more reliable form of transportation, but some were concerned about the impact the construction would have on local businesses and the disruption to daily life.
Despite these concerns, the construction of the Ashfield LRT was completed on schedule in 2012, and the system officially began operation in the early summer of that year. The LRT featured 6 stations, spanning from Ashfield's downtown to the city's outer areas, and was able to transport thousands of passengers per day.
