At around 12 PM PST on april 17th in 1995. Golden Pacific flight 008 took off from the runway and started its long journey from Sydney to the GIA airport. The boeing 767-238ER had 210 souls on board. After a long 16 hour flight the plane finally started its descend to land on runway 9R, however, right before the plane would be able to touch the runway, strong crosswinds pushed the plane slightly to the left and the plane had to go around and try again. Around 5 pm PST the plane touched the runway and started slowing down. However due to the heavy winds the plane was pushed to the right and couldnt stop since the runway was shorter compared to runways at other airports. The plane could not stop in time. It barely missed the approach lights, it hit a taxiway sign and ended up crashing through the fences and right into the busy highway: I-205. The plane hit around 23 cars before the engines exploded seconds later.

The plane crash ended up taking the life of 196 passengers and 13 people on highway I-205, 54 were hospitilized.

It took around 2 weeks to clean up and fix the highway and airport. This caused mass traffic issues in the areas of Lannex and Rio Pueblo.

The crash ended up costing the airline, and the city 2,4 billion dollars, and it is till this day the deadliest plane crash to happen in the Californian state.
