Greenfield Police Department
The Greenfield Police Department (GPD) is the primary law enforcement agency of the City of Greenfield, California, United States. The department employs 1,130 employees and 421 civilian staff as of January 2025. The department serves 1.1 million people and is the 4th largest police department in California after Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego.
Informally established in 1848 shortly after the end of the Mexican-American War as the Greenfield Sheriff Service, the GSS became an official city department in 1850 shortly after the admission of California to the United States of America. As the city grew to become a mid-sized city at end of the 19th century, the GSS was reorganized and renamed the Greenfield Police Department.
